Travel guide of Machu Picchu stationWe entered Machu Picchu at 5:30am as the sun was rising over the mountains. This photo was captured as a bird flew off into the distance once we entered the park. The clouds rose from the base of Machu Picchu and cleared to make a sunny day.

We were up at the viewpoint for Machu Picchu at around 6:30am. Despite the crowds I was able to capture this shot in between hordes of people.

One off the bucketlist - We were very close to not making the trip up there as our budget was on its last legs. We decided to go it alone rather than use the extortionate travel agencies and made the journey via several local combi-taxi’s, one of which was 5 hours long, then a few sketchy gravel roads with sheer drops to the road’s side, a hike up a railway track, a mad dash through a tunnel to avoid the approaching train, and then a 3 hour round trip hike to the top and back the following morning. One of the best decisions we made and a story to tell. Always do it.

Machu Picchu (in Quechua “Old Mountain”). Declared Historical and Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 1981. It is one of the 7 new wonders of the world located in Peru, in the Department of Cuzco, in the province of Urubamba. This ancient Andean town was built in the 15th century as a resting place and religious sanctuary.
